This garment is definitely the most well-constructed and unique garment that I have ever created. This garment utilizes excess wool fabric, lined with cotton fabric from repurposed bed sheets. The fabric is excess from the brand Rick Owens, it was a gift from my mom on Cchristmas. I had never received a high-quality fabric without already having a vision in mind until this point, so it was definitely challenging. I came up with the idea of a blazer with a hood, because it was something that I had never seen before, especially in the way that I envisioned it. This was a perfect idea, because I love augmenting patterns in a way that makes them just a bit odd.
I began by creating a simple tech-pack of the garment in illustrator, to ensure that I had the vision down. After this, I used the textbook to create a pattern for a portly mens blazer. I chose the largest possible sizing because I wanted the piece to be as oversized as possible. Once I had patterned a standard blazer, I got to work adding the hood, elongating the sleeves and body, and adding tons of small details to enhance the garment.
After my pattern was complete, I created a muslin draft and tested it to make sure that it fit well. I then altered any problem areas and prepared to cut my actual fabric. In the process of conceptrualizing, drafting, and making a muslin, I had to be extra careful, because wasting any of this fabric would have been a tragedy. I cut my fabric and liner, and lined the fabric. I then constructed the jacket and added my closures and additional details.
Overall, I feel that my process and construction on this piece is the best that I have ever done.
